Background
Each year, the Southwest Foundation Forum Science Education Awards are awarded to select area high school science departments in support of new and innovative programs that further the students' interest in and knowledge of science. High schools in and around San Antonio are invited to submit applications for the science grants.

Selection Process
A committee comprised of SFBR scientists, a representative from the V. H. McNutt Memorial Foundation and Forum volunteers review all of the applications and select the winners. Hands-on science is encouraged and winner's applications usually discuss hypothesis, data collection, results and analysis.

Application Process

December — Invitation letters and application formats are sent to area high schools.

February — Applications are scheduled to arrive by mail or hand delivery to Mr. Bennie Garcia at SFBR on or before the closing date. Late applications are not considered.

March — The winners are selected and awards are presented at the March Forum luncheon.
